A sneak peak into the work behind our head software engineer and creator of BigWater/Oregon Automation

Meet Kevan.

An engineer of 30 years who started his own business right here in Albany Oregon. Throughout his career, Kevan has worked with some of the biggest names in household technology, including Nike and HP. His expertise lay in microscopic inspection systems and software development but his skills go far beyond that.
Not only is he an engineer, but a carpenter, hobby farmer, a father, and as of December 2018, a grandfather to an adorable, red-headed bundle of fun!

Before starting BigWater Technology he owned a small farm near Scio, Oregon, complete with goats, sheep, chickens and plenty of other 4-H worthy critters for his 3 daughters. He worked by day as a software engineer, and mastered the art of rural life at home. Woodworking has always been a passion, and it came in handy as he renovated their 1850’s home, and repaired the barn, chicken coop, etc. While the farm has since been passed onto another growing family, he and his family still reminisce on all of the trouble they got into building hay forts, chasing runaway goats, and summer bike rides.

For the last 2 years Kevan has been developing and patenting preventative solutions to water damage using smart technology. After experiencing his own bouts of leaks and water damage due to multiple water heater failures he knew he could create something to solve the problem. Something that would alert him to water leaks when they happened, rather than finding extensive water damage weeks after the fact. So he did just that!There have been plenty challenges to starting a business but the first product, The Smart Matz, will be launching early 2020! While there is still work to be done, he and the BigWater team are thrilled to get the Smart Matz (the first of many products) into the hands of homeowners so they can avoid expensive damage too.
